- Description
- As a Client Construction Manager at HS2 you will provide construction management expertise for major infrastructure construction contracts, ensuring delivery in accordance with safety, time, cost, quality, environmental specifications, and the contract Works Information.
Working on Area South of the High Speed 2 Programme reporting to a Senior Construction Manager, responsible for managing and assuring the Tier 1 main contractors on the main works contracts of HS2. The works are located in a 27km sections going through the Chilterns which consists of major Heavy Civils - TBM Tunneling, cut and cover, 2.5km viaduct, major cuttings, shafts, d walls, earthworks, piling, site set up, & major enabling works. Please note the project is moving into delivery phase with the Tier 1 main contractors due to start constructing the main works contract shortly. Therefore, looking for Construction/Project Managers with major heavy civils experience during the delivery phase of a project working for a client or Tier 1 main contractor.
The role is based from Offices in Male Cross albeit you will spend roughly 40/50% of your time on site.
About the role:
- Provide advice and expertise at all stages of the construction planning process to various contractors to ensure that all relevant procedures and documentation for contractors to follow are current and up-to-date
- Supervise contractors and related construction works, ensuring that infrastructure protection is established and that the works are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner to ensure that there are safe systems of work and environmental controls on site
- Take an operational lead on interfaces with all external and internal stakeholders relating to project areas managed and establish and maintain relationships with key customers, including contractors, and key stakeholders in order to resolve issues quickly
- Assist as required in the contribution to the overall construction plan by managing the planning of access, possessions and closures
- Facilitate management of the client, supply chain and various stakeholders, and assist in the development and implementation of the delivery vision and strategy for the infrastructure programme, to ensure delivery according to time, cost, quality, safety and environmental specifications
- Support the Senior Construction Manager and Senior Project Managers to develop and maintain working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively and influencing others to deliver objectives.
- Work within an operational team to develop and implement business processes and performance across all activities in order to achieve business objectives and continuously improve performance
- Conduct safety inspections of work sites when work is underway, to ensure that contractors comply with HS2 requirements, including all related HSE regulations and standards on site.
Qualifications
About You:
- Degree or HND in Construction Management or Civil Engineering

Proven track record of managing heavy civils works which should include experience of at least one of the following;
- Enabling works e.g. major utility diversions, site clearance and compound set-up
- Tunnelling, earthworks or cut and cover methods
- Underground structures (d-wall, piling, RC shafts)
- Viaduct construction
- Integration of structures and railway systems (rail experience is a plus not essential)
- Experience in managing complex major civils works in either a Tier One Contractor or Client-side role
- Experienced in managing complex and multi-disciplinary projects with a value of at least £50m
- Construction management experience gained across a range of large-scale projects, with a sound understanding of construction planning
- Experience of utilising site-based processes and procedures for health, safety, quality and environmental management.
- Knowledge of NEC3 Contracts and CDM
