2D Civil CAD Technician Working at £2b Hinkley Point Project who is interested in being developed into a BIM / Digital Engineer, full training will be provided.
Overview
CAD Technician who are experienced on civil/structural projects is required to work on one of the worlds mega projects – Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant, the person will based from the project office and the project will last 7 years and you will be working in the CAD / Digital Engineering Team.
The CAD Technicians will be responsible for the production of accurate and timely technical drawings required for the Hinkley Point Project. This will be a fast paced very varied role where you will be detailing whatever the site teams need you to do, for methodology of work, week by week slide, temporary works arrangement. Could be concrete drawing, earthworks, steel, drainage & general civil engineering.
AutoCAD will be detailing package used. This role is on site and as such you will be close to the construction and will get a really good feel for the construction methodology right the way through the build.
You will also be given the opportunity and gain training to move into a full BIM/Digital Engineer role working for the recognised industry leaders in BIM.
Hinckley Point Power Station – Project Profile:
- Construction Costs are estimated at £2 billion
- Highly Complex massive reinforced structures and buildings
- Construction will involve the main civils works for the nuclear island, the conventional island and supporting structures.
- This contract is the first relating to the main construction works which will see up to 25,000 jobs created on site over the course of the project, including an estimated 400 apprenticeships for the civils work.
- The scope of work of the main civils contract includes the Nuclear Island, Conventional Island, Balance of Plant, Waste Disposal, Operational Service Centre; Temporary Civil Structures, Contractor’s offices on site; Contractors roads, platforms and networks.
- The scale of the work involves sufficient steel reinforcement to build up to 9 HMS Illustrious aircraft carriers and enough left over to build 5 London Eyes; each nuclear island is the equivalent size of St Paul’s Cathedral; and around enough concrete will be poured to fill Twickenham Rugby Stadium to roof level.
Role Accountabilities & Key Responsibilities:
- To operate in a fully compliant manner at all times and within all relevant design and Construction Design & Management Regulations. (CDM)
- Produce Product Bills of Materials, via Computer Software, both for procurement activities.
- Liaise with clients to ensure development of all design information is fully coordinated and interpreted correctly onto working drawings
- Ensure full adherence to all quality control procedures and remain compliant with authorisation and approval processes both internally and externally.
- Carry out sales order/ contract reviews and ensure relevant products part numbers and details are offered for allocation with in the ERP operating system enabling accurate and timely material procurement.
- Fully understand and work within the parameters set for the standard product range.
- Drive and monitor design programmes weekly and liaise closely with the CAD Team Leader to ensure timely information release.
- Where necessary coordinate design development activities with external designers ensuring their current resources, skills and availability satisfy operational requirements.
- Ensure design information and drawings are issued in a timely manner in line with project programme

Person Profile
Looking for CAD Technicians with good grounding in engineering with minimum 2 year civil/structural experience who is interested in developing into a Digital / BIM Engineer.
Essential
- Conversant with 2D Drafting skills using AutoCAD, 2 years experience
- Experience as CAD Technician working on civil or structural civil engineering or building projects
- Understanding of construction and how projects are constructed
- Self-motivated to lead and achieve the highest levels of excellence
- Customer oriented
- PC-literate,(Various design package experience)
- Good Communication skills.
- Interested in BIM and learning 3D software
