Shape the Performance of the UK’s Future High-Speed Railway

Are you a Systems or Reliability or Performance Engineer with experience in performance, RAM, or system assurance looking to influence the operation of one of the UK’s most complex infrastructure programmes?

This is a unique opportunity to join the PRAM (Performance, Reliability, Availability & Maintainability) team within HS2’s Systems Integration function, working across the entire railway programme: from civils and stations to rail systems (signalling, telecoms, power) and rolling stock.

You will play a key role in ensuring that HS2’s assets are designed, delivered and integrated to achieve world-class performance, reliability and maintainability outcomes.

The Role

As a PRAM Engineer, you will support assurance activities across approximately 20 major contracts, working closely with Tier 1 contractors and their supply chains to ensure that design and delivery decisions meet required PRAM standards.

You will help challenge technical assumptions, review reliability and performance modelling outputs, and provide independent engineering input to support robust, data-driven decision making.

Working within a small but highly influential technical team, you will also contribute to the development of modern PRAM approaches, including the use of digital tools, data analytics and AI-enabled insights to improve long-term railway performance and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support PRAM assurance across multiple major infrastructure contracts
  • Review contractor submissions, reliability models and technical documentation
  • Challenge assumptions and validate performance, availability and maintainability outputs
  • Ensure compliance with BS EN 50126 and related RAMS assurance standards
  • Provide technical input into systems engineering and integration activities
  • Support whole-system thinking across civils, stations, rail systems and rolling stock
  • Contribute to PRAM reporting, analysis and performance insight development
  • Engage with stakeholders across engineering, delivery and supply chain organisations
  • Promote continuous improvement in reliability and maintainability practices

About You

You are likely a Systems Engineer, RAM Engineer Performance Engineer with experience in complex, safety-critical environments such as rail, nuclear, defence, aerospace or major infrastructure.

You will be comfortable working across multiple technical disciplines, reviewing engineering outputs, and influencing stakeholders in a client-side or assurance-focused environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Systems or similar)
  • 3–5 years’ experience in rail or other regulated industries (nuclear, defence, aerospace, infrastructure)
  • Understanding of Performance, Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (PRAM/RAMS) principles
  • Familiarity with BS EN 50126 and associated systems assurance frameworks
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation and contractor deliverables
  • Exposure to systems engineering, modelling or analysis techniques
  • Understanding of CDM principles and engineering lifecycle processes
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable Experience

  • Direct experience in PRAM, RAMS or Systems Engineering roles
  • Experience working client-side, for Tier 1 contractors or consultancies
  • Exposure to railway systems (signalling, telecoms, rolling stock, stations or depots)
  • Experience in other complex sectors such as defence, aerospace or automotive
  • Understanding of asset integration and whole-system performance management
  • Interest in digital engineering, data analytics or AI-enabled performance tools

Why Join HS2?

This is a rare opportunity to influence the long-term performance of Britain’s new high-speed railway at a system-wide level.

You will gain exposure across the full infrastructure lifecycle, working alongside leading engineers in a highly collaborative systems integration environment, with strong progression opportunities into senior PRAM and systems leadership roles.
