Looking for a qualified Fire Engineer with rail infrastructure experience to work for a major consultancy who have been recently awarded 2 prestigious Network Rail Asset Protection (ASPRO) frameworks working across England.  Role will be home based with access to network of offices across the Uk to use as required.

 

Acting as the client (Network Rail) the Global Delivery Consultant will provide a wide range of professional services – project management, Engineering, Commercial, Construction & PMO roles to Network Rail on the framework.  The framework focuses on ensuring third party and outside party projects and ensure they are delivered efficiently & in compliance with all standards & regs; working on a wide range of projects from station refurbishments, depots improvements, commercial & residential developments that are on or near the railway such as - supermarkets, carparks, residential etc.  The framework will provide expert railway assistance and support to those who are planning activities on or near the railway & the Fire Engineer will provide all the relevant Rail Fire Safety Assurance services during design & construction.

 

The Fire Engineer will ensure & assure the compliance of the schemes to all relevant fire safety standards, initially reviewing designs and on the larger schemes where the company is providing full lifecycle support such as Station Redevelopments through into Construction. 

This is a long term 5-year framework where you will be based from home and then to site & design office on an ad-hoc basis, although if preferred there is a network of offices across the country to utilise – London (Kingscross), Derby, Peterborough, York, Manchester, Birmingham etc .  Projects Include £10 – 20m refurbishments of stations such as Peterborough, Bedford  - There will be very varied projects working with a wide mix of organisations – local authorities, private developers/companies, development corporations & public bodies.

Salary

Salary   £55,000 – 62,500 + £6000 Car allowance + Bupa + pension + holidays

All travel expenses to office/ site will be paid for.

 

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Co-ordination of work with other contractors and network rail.
  • Liaison with route engineers (discipline).
  • Substantial experience in the design, installation and commissioning of fire systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of codes and standards pertaining to the design of fire systems which shall include evidence of passing relevant courses such as LPC/ BAFE etc.
  • Substantial experience in the design and review of fire strategies and engineering solutions
  • Assurance of Fire Systems (limited to system design and commissioning).
  • Assurance of fire strategy and designs which are based on following prescriptive guidance and does not include any performance-based design or smoke control and excludes managed stations        
  • Assurance of all fire strategies /designs for managed stations or where some aspects of risk analysis or performance-based approach has been adopted  
  • Participate in all engineering and development assurance activities so that they result in schemes that are affordable, and that meet programme requirements in a safe & environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.
  • Use risk ID and evaluation methods (e.g. HAZOP, QRA etc.), as suitable, to evaluate and compare options.
  • Act as or liaise with the appropriate project engineer so that method statements for site works and surveys are produced and approved to the required standards. 

 

The Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Fire Engineer (BSc / MSc or Chartered) with rail experience; with experience in the use and application of fire rail standards (BS 9992, BS 9999). Ideal project experience will be stations but open to fire engineer with any rail infrastructure experience & would have design & construction fire assurance experience.  Open to people from Client or consultant background. 

 

Looking for:

  • Experience of applying fire technical standards (BS 9992, BS 9999) in rail infrastructure environment – stations, depots, civils, commercial developments, residential etc
  • Able to provide specialist fire technical support and leadership on discipline-specific analysis, problem solving and design techniques to project development / delivery teams
  • Ability to communicate Fire-specific technical ideas to colleagues, based largely on examples of application.
  • Ability to apply many principles relating to standards, safety and the environment and able to articulate the rest.
  • Qualified Fire Engineer, Ideally Chartered or working towards chartership. MIFireE / AIFireE
