A Health & Safety Manageris required to work for the Client Organisation (High Speed Two Ltd) responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK. The role sits within the Construction delivery team on £1.6bn new build of Old Oak Common.

 

Role Overview

This role is responsible for assisting the Senior Health, Safety and Security Manager and Head of HSS in ensuring HS2’s health, safety, security and management standards are met within development and delivery areas, by both HS2 and the Supply Chain. The role is also responsible for role modelling and embedding the ‘Safe at heart’ culture across development and delivery.

 

 

Working in the integrated project teams the Health & Safety Manager is responsible for supporting risk based Health, Safety and Security operational assurance within the delivery areas (Old Oak Common Site), and be accountable for role modelling and embedding ‘Safe at Heart’ culture.  Addition tasks include supporting the investigation of Health, Safety and Security incidents – the abilitu to communicate effectively with the main contractor and their supply chain is absolutely key in the delivery of this role.

 
Old Oak Common Station

 

This requires a Health & Safety Manager with Construction / delivery experience.

 

Site Focused Health & Safety Manager working within the Integrated Client / Main Contractor Delivery Team BBV (Balfour Beatty, Vinci, Systra) based from the Old Oak Common Station site, project valued £1.6bn Brand New station build, 6 underground platforms & 8 Surface platforms.  On completion, Old Oak Common station will become the UK’s best-connected station, providing direct services to three major airports, eight of Britain’s ten largest cities and forming part of one of Britain’s largest regeneration projects.  The role will focus on delivery / construction – assuring the works carried out by the Main Contractors and their supply Chain. In the first 6 months they will also ask you to cover some works on the £2bn Euston Staiton.


 
Working Relationship – Co-located

The Health & Safety Manager role where the client team (HS2) are working alongside the main contractor (Co-located) in the same site offices, the role requires individuals with the correct behaviours – collaboration, engagement, stakeholder management skills who are able to drive the best from the relationship, pick up on problems as they arrive and resolve quickly rather than waiting and reviewing once the problem has manifested.  The Environmental Manager needs to be proactive lead integration and facilitate change not just sit back assure and review.


Working Situation – Hybrid

Old Oak Common role is site based from old Oak Common Station (Ealing) with Hybrid working – expectation is to work 2 days a week from the site office and the rest of the time at home.  


 
Salary

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To be accountable for role modelling and embedding ‘Safe at Heart’ culture and ways of working throughout delivery.
  • To be responsible for supporting risk based Health, Safety and Security operational assurance within the development and delivery areas.
  • To be accountable for assisting the Senior Health, Safety and Security Manager in overseeing and ensuring compliance to centrally defined processes and policies across:
    • Occupational Health
    • Safety
    • Security
  • To be responsible for supporting the investigation of Health, Safety and Security incidents within delivery areas.
  • To be accountable for assisting in the provision of Health, Safety and Security services to support development & delivery teams.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.


Require Criteria

The role requires a Health & Safety Manager or Advisor ready for the next step up - experience with the delivery construction phase of major infrastructure / rail / construction / utility projects. 

The candidates can be from client, consultant or indeed main contractor and have the correct behaviors to manage the unique structure of the project (co-located in the same offices) – Collaborative, open communicator, proactive & Integrator.

Would be open to a health & Safety graduate looking for the next step in their career. 


Skills:

  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Analysis Skills - can identify hidden problems utilising honest analysis and probing techniques.
  • Problem solving - uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; probes all relevant sources for answers.
  • Planning and organising – Able to prioritise and manage own workload.
  • IT proficiency (e.g. Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to assist with the production and review of technical reports including assurance and investigation reports and interface with staff across all levels of the project.

 

Knowledge:

  • All aspects of health and safety, including occupational health elements of the Works Information, security policies/procedures/processes
  • Knowledge of a range of assurance activities, tools, techniques and their application.

 

Type of Experience:

  • Experience of assisting with the delivery of Health & safety across a major programme, or a complex organisation, with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in being part of a multi-disciplinary Quality or Health & Safety team
  • Experience of contributing to and review of investigations.
  • A professional qualification in Health and Safety or able to demonstrate the equivalent experience.
