- Description
- Seeking a Doors Database Manager (System Administrator) to work for the client organisation whom are building and then operating the New High Speed Railway in the UK. The contract has been initially signed off for 6 months (potential for extension). The role include hybrid working with an expectation to split your time between home and office in Birmingham.
The DOORS Database Manager ensures that the DOORS database is implemented, maintained and managed meeting the needs of the programme, developing the process for deployment across the supply chain and security management of the database. The role holder will also provide support and training to the DOORS user community within HS2 and across suppliers.
In the Role you will:
- Makes decisions with respect to planning, prioritising and delivering tasks associated with the management and development of the DOORS database for self and other users of the database.
- Makes decisions based on sound technical judgement to offer robust, cost effective solutions to meet HS2 requirements management and DOORS database objectives.
- Make recommendations to governance panels on the best technical, cost effective solution for set up, configuration, maintenance and upgrade of the DOORS database to meet the needs of the HS2 Requirements Management Process.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work to the HS2 Requirements Management Plan and any associated process and procedures throughout the HS2 Programme Lifecycle within the context of implementing, maintaining and managing the DOORS database;
- Implementation and maintenance of the DOORS database, engaging with the HS2 IT department to ensure that the infrastructure and access to DOORS are robust for the needs of the programme;
- Develop and maintain the information architecture / requirements schema within the database to meet the needs of the programme, following the Requirements Management Plan and the overall framework for capturing, disaggregating and disseminating requirements from a top-down perspective into the technical and delivery organisations;
- Development of a process for DOORS deployment across HS2 and in the supply chain;
- Development of a process for account and information security management with respect to DOORS across HS2 and in the supply chain;
- Provide support / guidance / training to the DOORS user community within HS2 and across suppliers;
- Engage with external suppliers as necessary to host, maintain and develop the tool and provide training.
Candidate Specification
Skills:
- For requirements management/DOORS, able to apply principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modelling and data security, basic understanding of data creation and visualisation, working under supervision of line manager or in liaison with relevant the Subject Matter Experts.
- Able to provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific scientific, technical and engineering principles to project development / delivery teams but knowing when to seek further guidance from Subject Matter Experts or others.
- Capable of being a Standard Owner for DOORS, working under the guidance of the Standard Discipline Owner.
- Meets minimum CPD requirement for professional institution every year.
- Able to provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific analysis, problem solving and design techniques to project development / delivery teams but knowing when to seek further guidance from Subject Matter Expert or others.
- Ability to communicate discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues, based on a mix of training and examples of application.
- Can articulate many principles relating to standards, safety and the environment without prompting.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of requirements management and engineering.
- Knowledge of practical systems integration and systems engineering.
- Applicable UK construction regulations including CDM requirements
- Understanding of the Regulatory/Legislative Framework relevant to HS2
- Understanding of other disciplines related to requirements management.
- Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated solution that meets all functional requirements.
- Chartered Engineer/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or working towards with the equivalent experience.
Type of experience:
- Experience in managing standards, engineering and safety activity on any engineering projects/ programmes
- Experience of managing competing project and engineering demands, with cost and schedule implications on any engineering projects/ programmes.
- Experience of managing requirements databases in a multi-disciplinary project environment.
