- Description
A Requirement Engineer is required to work on the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. THis is an intial 6 month contract with good potenmtial to be extended for another 6 months. The role is located from Euston, London - however the expectation is that you will be there once a week / fortnight.
The Requirements Engineer ensures that the HS2 requirements are successfully developed, instructed and complied with through application of a good quality requirements management process which is applied by HS2 Ltd and the delivery organisations for their parts of the HS2 scope.
Utilizing the requirement software Doors, the main exercise is to review engineering system level requirements and ensure each requirement is of good quality and traceable, challenge requirements here they are gaps or ambiguity.
Workung Situation
Although the office location is Birmingham or London mostly you will work from home with a requirement to come into the office once a week / fortnight unless you'd rather work from the office this can be organised.Duties and Responsibilities
- Work to the HS2 Requirements Management Plan and any associated process and procedures throughout the HS2 Programme Lifecycle;
- Support the communication and understanding of the Requirements Management Plan throughout HS2 and check that the Requirements Management Plan is being implemented and participate in audits of this when necessary;
- Work within a robust and practical framework for capturing, disaggregating and disseminating requirements from a top-down perspective into the technical and delivery organisations;
- Work within a digital environment for Requirements Management (DOORS) and support others to ensure its effective use within HS2 and with suppliers;
- Responsible for delegated elements of the production and management of the project requirements in order to comply with external regulations and standards as well as meet the project objectives (outputs, timescale and cost);
- Engage with stakeholders and third parties in agreeing their technical requirements and acceptance activity;
- Engage with the Technical and Delivery teams to oversee definition of the acceptance criteria for the requirements including design approval, demonstration of capability, acceptance of equipment and operability as appropriate;
- Engage with the Integrated Project Teams and other parts of the supply chain for the delivery HS2 to support the implementation of the HS2 Requirements Management Plan.
- Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
Skills
Looking for an experienced Requirements who has worked on major engineering programmes ideally rail, however also very interested in people from Avionics, Defense, Aerospace, Nucelar etc. who have worked for a client organisation and has Doors experience and through understanding of the requirement lifecycle.
- For requirements management, able to apply principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modelling and data security, basic understanding of data creation and visualisation, working under supervision of line manager or in liaison with relevant the Subject Matter Experts.
- Able to provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific scientific, technical and engineering principles to project development / delivery teams, but knowing when to seek further guidance from Subject Matter Experts or others.
- Capable of being a Standard Owner for requirements management, working under the guidance of the Standard Discipline Owner.
- Meets minimum CPD requirement for professional institution every year.
- Able to provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific analysis, problem solving and design techniques to project development / delivery teams, but knowing when to seek further guidance from Subject Matter Expert or others.
- Ability to communicate discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues, based on a mix of training and examples of application.
- Can articulate many principles relating to standards, safety and the environment without prompting.
Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of requirements management and engineering.
- Good knowledge of practical systems integration and systems engineering.
- Applicable UK construction regulations including CDM requirements Page 4 of 6
- Understanding of the Regulatory/Legislative Framework relevant to HS2
- Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated solution that meets all functional requirements.
- Understanding of other disciplines related to requirements management
- Chartered Engineer/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or working towards with the equivalent experience (not essential)
Experience
- Experience in managing standards, engineering and safety activity on any engineering projects/ programmes
- Experience of managing competing project and engineering demands, with cost and schedule implications on any engineering projects/ programmes.
- Experience of managing requirements databases in a multi-disciplinary project environment
