Job Purpose
An experienced client side Construction / Project Manager is required to Supervisor major infrastructure construction contracts working on a major enabling works contract part of a High Speed Rail Infrastructure project in the UK. The purpose of the role is to ensure the works are provided (by the main contractor) to standard and performance required in the works information.
About the role:
- Provide advice and expertise at all stages of the construction planning process to various contractors to ensure that all relevant procedures and documentation for contractors to follow are current and up-to-date.
- Supervise contractors and related construction works, ensuring that infrastructure protection is established and that the works are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner to ensure that there are safe systems of work and environmental controls on site.
- Take an operational lead on interfaces with all external and internal stakeholders relating to project areas managed and establish and maintain relationships with key customers, including contractors, and key stakeholders in order to resolve issues quickly.
- Assist as required in the contribution to the overall construction plan by supervising planning of access, possessions and closures.
- Facilitate management of the client, supply chain and various stakeholders, and assist in the development and implementation of the delivery vision and strategy for the infrastructure programme, to ensure delivery according to time, cost, quality, safety and environmental specifications.
- Work within an operational team to develop and implement business processes and performance across all activities in order to achieve business objectives and continuously improve performance.
- Conduct safety inspections of work sites when work is underway, to ensure that contractors comply with requirements, including all related HSE regulations and standards on site.
About You:
- Demonstrable record of managing the construction of complex, multi-disciplinary projects (over circa £30 million), within a construction environment working for a client organisation.
- Proven construction experience gained across a range of large-scale projects, with a sound understanding of construction planning.
- Engineering qualification (HND), preferably Civil, or equivalent experience
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of relevant health and safety regulations and industry best practice.
- Knowledge and experience of site-based processes and procedures for health, safety, environmental and environmental management.
- Track record of supervising and administering subcontractors.
- Good working knowledge of the NEC contract and its practical implications.
- Effective communication skills and proven ability to work in the site environment.
- Proven ability to engage with, influence, and manage contractors, sub-contractors and local external stakeholders to achieve the best outcome for the project.
- Excellent organisation skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
DECISION MAKING
- This role is responsible for contributing and delivering to a programme of work within the specific stated geographical or project area, under the overall supervision of a Senior Construction Manager.
- The Construction Manager promotes continuous improvement and best practice and supports the Senior Construction Manager in sharing developing this across the sector
- The Construction Manager is responsible for day-to-day operational issues such as logistics and mass haul, community liaison and interfaces and monitoring of the NEC contract and relevant stakeholders.
- Jobholder escalates decision-making to Senior Construction Manager and Senior Project Manager on critical matters and strategic issues such as the sequence of work packages.
FACTS AND FIGURES
- The jobholder is responsible for line management for up to 5 people
- The jobholder is responsible for managing a budget of up to £30 million
- The jobholder is responsible for supervision of construction works on packages of up to £500 million.
REPORTING LINES
- Jobholder reports directly to the Senior Construction Manager and works within the team of a Senior Project Manager.
- They will be required to support the Senior Construction Manager and Senior Project Manager to develop and maintain working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively and influencing others to deliver objectives.
SALARY & PARTICULARS
- Role pays c£450 - 500 a day (ltd company)
- Working from London Euston, however, there will be some travel along the route and some meetings in Birmingham
- The contract will initially be for 6 months, but has the potential to be extended.
