- Description
- BIM Coordinators (Digital Engineer) are required for 2 very high profile Infrastructure Projects based in Birmingham:
· High Speed 2 Enabling Works - Area North c£350m – Covering the section from Birmingham Interchange north to Curzon Street and the connection to the West Coast Main Line at Handsacre. Awarded Nov 2016 the preparations will now start immediately and will involve negotiating to agree demolition, diversion of major utilities and other preparatory works. Enabling works contract consists of utility diversions, ecology surveys, demolition, ground remediation, watercourse activities, highways realignments, monitoring and instrumentation, structural reinforcements and drainage work.
· East-West Rail phase 2, c£1.2 billion, Network Rail - The equal four-way alliance (including Network Rail) will deliver a rail route linking Oxford, Milton Keynes and Bedford, and Milton Keynes with London Marylebone via Aylesbury. This large infrastructure project consists of:- a new station at Winslow, two new platforms at Bletchley, 18 new overbridges, 22 new footbridges or subways and changes to 97 railway crossings.
Both projects are build & design draws heavily upon the contractors “off-site manufacturing” offering as well as Digital Engineering through BIM modelling capabilities.
The Digital Engineer will report to a Senior Digital Engineer and either take full responsibility for BIM on a smaller project or part of a team on a larger project.
The successful candidate will have good experience of co-ordinating federated models and technical proficiency using Bentley – Microstation.

PURPOSE OF POST
· To support the development of Digital Engineering, (Building Information Modelling), capability, related to project design & delivery phase implementation, in line with industry best practice and emerging innovation and
· To support/manage the implementation of Digital Engineering, (Building Information Modelling), to the project design & delivery phase of projects by applying appropriate process and protocols at bid, pre- construction, construction, commissioning, operation and
· To support LOR Functional Staff in their development to deliver Digital Engineering, (Building Information Modelling), in line with their discipline specific
· To support the ‘Post Win DE Team’ across ‘business as usual’ and ‘developing’ Digital Engineering & BIM Implementation Strategies, from Work Winning through to Project
· To support the ‘Post Win DE Team’ maintain collaborative working relationships with key Design Partners and develop alignment amongst DE/BIM
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital Engineering, (Building Information Modelling) – ‘Post Win’ Implementation
Responsible for the clear communication of the process, protocol and training required to support the implementation of Digital Engineering / Building Information Modelling, on projects under individual’s responsibility.
· Responsible for implementing DE / BIM to the ‘post win’ phase of a project, in line with the Business strategy/requirement of discipline specific functional
· Responsible for reporting on ‘post win’ project implementation on projects under individual’s responsibility.
· Responsible for the capture and sharing of best practice relating to ‘post win’ project implementation on projects under individual’s responsibility
Implementation
· demand for Process, Protocol & Training material
· thorough project protocols set-up and implemented based on preferred stakeholder appointments
Functional Engagement

Reporting

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
Please note the Digital Engineer roles are very much client facing and require people with excellent communication skills to both communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders and also the project team who you will be training, coaching and working with.

QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL
· HND or equivalent in Building / Civil Engineering / Architectural Technology / Bulding Services / Structural Engineering or similar (Construction Industry Related)
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
BIM Engineers are equivalent to BIM Coordinator, however, would accept a BIM Technician / Architectural Technologist or Engineer with BIM skills looking to step up into the specialist BIM role.
ESSENTIAL
· Working knowledge of BIM co-ordination/management,
· As a guide 3 - 7 years’ experience(highway, railway, pipeline etc)
· Experience of large complex infrastructure projects, ideally linear new build projects
· Civil/Structural Background would also consider someone from Architectural & MEP background
· Good software skills – principally Bentley Microstation
· Could be from contractor, consultancy, MEP or client firm.
· AUTOCAD or BUILDING/Engineer related qualification.
· Comfortable taking the lead in regards to the application of BIM with both internal staff and external parties and can train and coach project teams in regards to using BIM
SALARY & PACKAGE
· £30 - £40,000 + pkg
