This is a unique client-side role offering the opportunity to influence the long-term operation, maintenance and performance of one of Europe's largest infrastructure programmes.

Working across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering assets including tunnels, viaducts, bridges, earthworks, drainage systems and line-side structures, you will provide asset management assurance throughout the delivery lifecycle, helping shape how Britain's new high-speed railway is maintained from day one.

  • Influence the maintainability of a brand-new railway before it enters service
  • Exposure to major civils assets including tunnels, viaducts, bridges, earthworks and drainage
  • Work across design, construction, handover and operational readiness phases
  • High-profile stakeholder engagement across engineering, delivery and operations teams
  • Long-term career progression into Route Asset Manager and wider asset leadership roles

You will review technical submissions, maintenance strategies, asset information and operational requirements, identifying risks to improve long-term asset performance and reliability.

Working closely with delivery teams, contractors and operational stakeholders, you will provide assurance that HS2's civil engineering assets meet future maintenance and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review civil engineering assets from an operational and maintainability perspective
  • Provide asset management assurance throughout design, construction and handover phases
  • Assess maintenance strategies, asset information and technical documentation
  • Identify maintainability, operational and whole-life cost risks
  • Influence engineering decisions to improve long-term asset performance
  • Support asset acceptance and operational readiness activities
  • Work closely with engineering, delivery and operational teams across the programme
  • Promote best practice asset management and lifecycle thinking across HS2
  • Support the development of maintenance regimes and asset management strategies

  • Experience reviewing technical documentation, maintenance plans and asset information
  • Ability to identify operational and maintainability risks
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Practical understanding of asset lifecycle management
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant industry experience

Desirable Experience

  • Structures asset management experience – Bridges, Viaducts etc
  • Client-side Rail asset owner experience (Network Rail, TfL, Tram, overground) also Highways England, local authority structures background.
  • Bridges, viaducts, tunnels, earthworks or drainage assets
  • Asset Protection (ASPRO) experience
  • Highways asset management experience
