Are you ready to be responsible for 5 Project Managers and the delivery of 7 Head Houses with a combined value of over £300m?
This is a standout opportunity to join High Speed Two Ltd and play a key role in delivering the £4.2bn London Main Works Contract, you will be responsible for the delivery of 7 Head House which are large complex buildings housing lots of MEP equipment and controls (ventilation, power, fans, lifts etc).
With the Line management responsibilities of 5 Project Managers & reporting to the Head of Delivery you will have considerable ownership & autonomy of the delivery of these head Houses. You will actively engage with the principal contractor joint venture (Costain, Skanska, Strabag) build meaningful relationship where you can both collaboratively solve issues and challenge the Joint venture with considerable gravatas. You will have strong commercial skills and a delivery focus under pinned with core Project management skill set (APM Framework).
The Project
£4.2bn London tunnels is a landmark Main Works civils contract consisting of13 miles of twin-bore tunnels (26 miles total) between West Ruislip and Euston. A Head House is the above-ground building constructed on top of a tunnel ventilation shaft. It houses crucial fire control, ventilation, and electrical systems for the high-speed rail tunnels below, while providing safe access and exit points for emergency services and maintenance crews.
The Role
Working directly for High Speed Two Ltd, you will become a Senior member of the Project Management team reporting to Head of Delivery for the project managing team of 5 Project Managers, you will take ownership for the delivery of 7 Head Houses values in excess of £300m
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Issue Management
- Risk Management – maintaining risk registers
- Monitor Main Contractor Schedule and cost – mitigating risks
- Manage Complex stakeholder environment
- Change Management – including scope and cost changes & the impact on affordability.
- Progress – Design deliverables and production
- Produce reports on the key deliverables
- Manage the main contractor to ensure successful delivery of the project to time, budget, scope & quality,
- Ensure the project is successfully integrated with other HS2 projects
Role Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Manager within infrastructure, civils or buildings
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3 or 4 contracts – ideally performed the role as the appointed NEC Project Manager in a contract
- Experience in a client-side or tier 1 main contractor-facing role – ideally will be client / consultant background – TFL, Network Rail, National highways etc
- Demonstrable experience managing contractors through design and/or delivery phases – most have some previous delivery experience.
- Commercial Awareness - Understanding of Contract Management, including change control and cost awareness
- Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary projects – ideally experience will be Train Depot, Stations, highways, Airport, University, power station, control centres etc – Looking for complex multi-disciplinary project with multiple interfaces and multiple stakeholders.
- Based within commuting distance of Birmingham and able to commit to site attendance requirements
- Qualification – nice to have Qualified in Civils, AMP, an related qualification – but open to anyone with the right experience.
