- Description
NEC Supervisor / Project Engineer – HS2 (Major Civils)
- Salary: £60,000 – £65,140 + 12% Pension + Healthcare + 25 days holiday
- Progression: Senior Project Engineer £80k – £86k + package
- Location: Bicester-based, covering a 25km stretch from Southam to Greatworth (Hybrid: 3 days site/office, rest from home)
The Opportunity
Join the client organisation (HS2) on one of the UK’s largest infrastructure programmes — a £4bn Main Works Civils contract (EKFB JV: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial, Bam) delivering 80km of viaducts, earthworks, bridges, green tunnels, and associated civils.
This is a construction-focused role, ideal for civil engineers with major infrastructure experience who want to step into a client-side position. You don’t need prior NEC Supervisor experience — full training will be provided.
The Role
Reporting to a Senior Project Engineer, you will act as HS2’s representative on site, ensuring the works are delivered to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor the quality of site works, witness tests/inspections, and ensure compliance with Works Information.
- Provide technical assurance that construction meets HS2’s standards, sponsor requirements, and policies.
- Act as the client’s “eyes and ears” on site — proactively challenging and collaborating with the contractor where required.
- Build effective working relationships with the contractor and wider delivery teams.
- Identify and resolve issues early to maintain programme certainty.
Project Context
This is one of the largest packages on HS2, with works including:
- Green tunnels, RC underground structures, and viaducts
- Bridges, retaining walls, road diversions, and highway realignment
- Earthworks, culverts, drainage, and landscape planting
You’ll gain exposure to complex heavy civils delivery across multiple disciplines, making this role ideal for engineers seeking broad career development.
Progression & Career Path
With works running through 2028 on this section and a wider HS2 pipeline extending to 2034, there are outstanding opportunities to progress to Senior Project Engineer (£80k–86k) and beyond — across civils, stations, and rail systems.

We’re looking for a qualified Civil Engineer with major infrastructure experience and strong on-site delivery exposure.
Essential:
✔️ Background in heavy civils – highways, bridges, structures, earthworks, tunnelling, airports, nuclear, or similar.
✔️ On-site construction delivery experience (client, consultant, or Tier 1 contractor).
✔️ Strong grasp of CDM regulations and constructability.
✔️ Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
✔️ Eye for quality assurance and detail.Open to candidates from roles such as:
- Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineer
- Sub Agent / Agent
- Design Manager / Engineering Assurance Manager

Why Apply?
This role gives you the chance to:
- Work on one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects.
- Gain client-side experience without prior NEC Supervisor background (training provided).
- Secure a clear pathway to Senior Project Engineer within HS2’s long-term pipeline.
- Work in a collaborative, co-located client-contractor environment where you can directly influence delivery.
Apply now to join HS2’s client team and help deliver a once-in-a-generation programme shaping the future of UK infrastructure.
