Description

Are you a Rail System Engineer wanting to work as a Function Integration Engineer role working on High Speed Two?

Functional integration Engineer is required to work for the Client Organisation (High Speed Two Ltd) responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK..  The functional integration role is within the Systems Integration department whom reports to the HS2 Chief Engineer (central Engineering group) which capture requirements and integrate all technical aspects of the programme for the end-state HS2 railway.  The Chief Engineer group is located within the Infrastructure Directorate which is the Prime Systems Integrator and as such accountable for planning the set-up of the operating entity and the trial operations to transition to a working railway.

Working on Phase 1 of the project, which, is valued c£60 billion has 10 years left to run and the Functional Integration Engineer team & the wider system integration department will be required to the very end & likely into service, excellent opportunities for development and progression.

Job overview

The Functional Integration Engineer undertakes technical analysis for functional integration of the HS2 railway. The role works within an overall of an overall process for delivering system functionality, within an overall systems integration framework, working progressively towards the end state railway.

The role undertakes systematic analysis of the operations and maintenance concept to define the functionality of the HS2 railway in terms of sub-system requirements, system architecture, interfaces and holistic technical solutions which are then realised through delivery programmes (i.e. supply contracts for railway systems, rolling stock, stations etc).

Example of the Functional Integration Team’s activities

The functional Integration engineers will undertake systematic analysis of situations such as when a Train Dispatches from a platform – at this point a number of sub-systems have to integrate together to ensure the system works such as the Rolling Stock System, Automatic Train Opening (ATO) the platform screen door open / close, the control room (dispatch room) on the station.  You will sequence the flow of information/data from each subsystem (using Enterprise Architecture) and ensure /  assure the different systems – define functionality in terms of sub-system requirements.

A function Integration Engineering team has never been deployed within the client organisation on a major infrastructure project, this approach has come from lesson learnt primarily from Crossrail and other large projects to ensure systems integration of such a complex project are managed correctly.

Progression & Development

High Speed Two is a rapidly growing organisation with the opportunities for progression and development truly fantastic.  HS2 already have a superb reputation for progressing from within highlighted by the fact 40% of all vacancies are filled internally.  High Speed Two have embraced a System Approach to delivering such a hugely complex & large programmes of works the opportunities across the organisation within System Engineering, Integration, Engineering Management, Configuration Requirements & Assurance are unrivalled across the industry.
