- Description
- We are recruiting for a Design Manager (all levels considered) to join an award-winning property and construction consultancy. This role provides the opportunity to work on a variety of high-profile projects across the UK, in multiple sectors and at a variety of value ranges, £5m - £500m. The successful candidate will primarily engage with our multi-disciplinary design teams and projects across the UK. The role will provide a unique opportunity to shape how Design Management is carried out on their multi-disciplinary projects. Candidates with experience of running complex projects as a Lead Designer, Architectural Project Manager, or with Main Contractor experience will also be considered. Location is flexible as they operate an agile working policy but will prioritise candidates within reasonable proximity of any of their UK offices, particularly Bristol & Birmingham.
Working with high-profile clients in sectors ranging from defence, manufacturing, healthcare, residential, cultural, education, and motorsport (Formula 1) with construction values anywhere from £5M to more than £500M. Projects will be very varied and the successful candidate will get a change to work right across their portfolio of works. Initially the demand is likely to be storage / warehouse (portal frame industrial buildings) and there is likely to be MOD demand too as they are one of eight multidiscipline consultants on the prestigious overseas Principal Support Provider (PSP) framework for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, fees valued £60m over 3 years.

Location & Agile Working
The Design Management team is located from Bristol or Birmingham. Location is flexibale as they operate an agile working policy, normal for people to work 2 / 3 days from home as long as they are prepared to travel to meetings and to projects when required.

Role And Responsibilities
- Plan and programme the development of design proposals by the clients multi-disciplinary teams across all project stages.
- Facilitate and chair design team meetings, technical and cost workshops, and approval presentations.
- Review and approve drawings, specifications, models, reports, and technical submittals.
- Advise on detailing, construction sequence, and material / equipment selection.
- Engage with Clients, statutory bodies, and other stakeholders outside the primary design team as required to serve the project.
- Develop Design Responsibility Matrices and Design Programmes.
- Manage RFI and Change Control processes.
- Utilise understanding of CDM principles to promote good H&S through design.
- Champion the use of BIM processes across the project team and contribute to BIM workshops.
- Contribute to bidding and work-winning across the business as required.
- Meet internal financial objectives by aligning with forecasting requirements and annual budgets.
- Manage the scopes, onboarding, and design activities of specialist external design and/or design management consultants.
- Develop a template Design Management Execution Plan along with any supporting resources.
- Contribute to the development of digital workflows to enhance the multi-disciplinary design process.
Experience And Skills Required
To apply for this role, you must evidence:
- Relevant industry experience from a design orientated background on complex projects such as architecture or engineering, ideally with chartered status.
- A good understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work and experience through pre- and post-contract stages
- Be proficient in the use of digital tools to manage the design process such as MS Excel, MS Project, document management platform, and mark-up systems as a minimum.
- Experience of defining BIM deliverables and programming outputs is advantageous.
- Be a pro-active leader of teams with excellent attention to detail.
