- Role Purpose
A unique opportunity to work at Veolia’s state of the art plastic HDPE recycling facility in Dagenham. Here the final stage in the plastic recycling process and circular economy is completed, crucial to reducing carbon emissions and building a more sustainable future ♻
Veolia Plastics Dagenham is a HDPE (high density polyurethane) milk bottle recycling facility that uses state-of-the-art technology to wash and decontaminate used milk bottles into resin that can be reused into milk bottle manufacturing, closing the loop on this high value waste stream. To ensure consumer safety, the Site has an impartial Laboratory facility which can conduct food contact testing on plastic materials as well as measurements of other HDPE characteristics.
Role reports to a Laboratory Manager, has excellent opportunities for career development working for the leading player in ecological transformation.
Duties and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for testing, collation, interpretation and reporting of quality data in the Laboratory. Support the company by maintaining the Laboratory Quality System which includes participation in audits, procedure reviews, stock management and matters relating to health and safety. Candidates will require a high attention to detail as reports will be provided to clients.
Required candidate criteria.
A-Level equivalent or above in a science related subject. Previous experience in a laboratory is required. Work will be supervised throughout the day although a high level of sufficiency is required with GC-FID and GC-MSD method development is desirable.
IT Skills
Be able to enter data correctly and efficiently.
Be proficient with Google Suite/MS Office (Docs, Sheets, Word and Excel).
Spreadsheet formulas (highly desirable)
Programming language (highly desirable)
Reporting Report writing Interpretation of results and use of statistical software (highly desirable)
Use databases Chemstation/Mass Hunter, Admis, NIST and other GC related software (desirable) Experience of writing test methods.
GC/MS Preparation of samples.
Analysis of results using GC/MS software.
Perform GC/MS calibrations.
Skills
Ability to work independently and a strong communicator, performing all responsibilities in a safe manner.
Working Times
The laboratory operates 24 hours per day, 5 days a week, over four 8 hour rotating shifts including one day shift, therefore the ability to work effectively with others is essential. This role is fixed term role of 40 hours per week. (Day shift) Mon - Fri 9am - 5.30pm (Flexible start and finish)
Pay Rate £14.39
Initially Temporary role for 3 months highly likely to be extended or go permanent.
