- I am looking for 2 Assistant Contracts Managers to work within the Client Organisation responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. Working within the Corporate services department, largely working on professional services contracts wither based from London or Birmingham offices.
The Corporate Contract Management Team are made up of 22 individuals managing over 300 contracts valued c£1.3bn with another £500m in new contracts to be awarded this year. Working in an exciting, complex, dynamic environment on one of the world’s largest capital infrastructure projects.
Reporting to a Contract Manager the Assistant Contracts Manager will provide contract management across HS2 Ltd’s corporate contracts portfolio. HS2 have a growing portfolio of contracts, including both standard government forms (for example Crown Commercial Services, G-cloud and NEC3 contracts). HS2 Ltd uses its contract models to ensure that it complies with statutory requirements along with relevant government policies to deliver value for money.
There are 2 main contract distinctions in the Corporate Contracts Management team, either Technical Contracts which utilise the NEC suits of contracts, which, will be for Technical Professional Services such as for Engineering Services and your ‘typical’ pure play corporate professional services such as HR, legal, finance & IT which will utilise standard government contracts & frameworks such as CCS & ESPO. Please note you will work on a mix of everything so get broad experience across multiple Contracts, superb opportunities to learn, develop and progress.
Candidate
Open to a range of candidates who have experience in any of the following:
- Contract Management
- Procurement
- Supply Chain
- Commercial management
You have some Contract Management exposure and worked within Utility Contract Regs (UCR) or Public Sector (PCR), however, open to have people with Procurement, Supply Chain or indeed Commercial Management backgrounds. Also happy for someone with Contract Management experience but never working within Governance based environment (UTR or PCR), especially if they had NEC contract experience. Therefore, able to provide training if you meet some of the criteria. Also looking for good computer and data analysis skills.

Work Situation – Hybrid
The office location is Birmingham Snowhill OR London, Euston they operate a flexible hybrid working model working 4 days a fortnight from the office - so 2 days a week. Overall, this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based from the office more you can.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Assistant Contract Manager will report to the Contract Manager. The main accountabilities will be to:
- Assist the Contract Manager and Senior contract Manager in their duties of managing a portfolio of corporate contracts
- Contribute to the administration of HS2 Ltd corporate contracts
- Assist in drafting documents to progress change requests through the company’s governance structure, systems and in association with other HS2 functions;
- Assist in compiling documents for compliance checks against contracts
- Assist in the production of contract management plans for each contract
- Review supplier performance against KPIs and performance measures
- Assist in the calculation of service credits and warranty payments
- Work to achieve value for money at each stage of the contract.
- Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
- Additional accountabilities may include:
- Setting up and facilitating meetings and information sharing with other functional areas
Candidate Criteria
Open to a range of candidates who have experience in any of the following (assistant roles fine): Contract Management, Procurement, Supply Chain, Commercial management.
Ideally you have some Contract Management exposure and worked within Utility Contract Regs (UCR) or Public Sector (PCR), however, open to have people with Procurement, Supply Chain or indeed Commercial Management backgrounds. Also happy for someone with Contract Management experience but never working within Governance based environment (UTR or PCR). Therefore, able to provide training if you meet some of the criteria. Also looking for good computer and data analysis skills. You will be a self-starter, with excellent stakeholder management skills and growth mindset.

Type of Experience
- Some Experience of corporate contract management – could come from Procurement assistant role
- Analytical, commercial and negotiating skills
- Ability to lead stakeholders through contract change request processes
- Ability to manage contract risk and understanding of different forms of contract and risk allocation
- Knowledge of working with or for publicly funded bodies including central government departments or utilities – although prepared to train candidate with the right aptitude with Contract Management experience willing to learn and understand governance.
