I am looking for 4 Planners to work within the Client Organisation responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. Planners are required in a number of the departments within High Speed Two including Land & Property, Rolling Stock & Main Works Civils
The Planner will report to a Senior Planner This role is responsible for supporting the development of an integrated project schedule across development and delivery areas, coordinating dependencies and interfaces across the programme, and assuring supply chain inputs into the integrated schedule.
The planner working in Land and Property will be planning the Land Acquisitions and Land access Programmes. The Planner working in Rolling Stock will work on the £2bn Train Procurement (Rollingf Stock) Programme and there are multiple planner roles throughout the integrated project teams in the main works civils programmes each valued £2bn – £6bn.
Candidate Must haves
High Speed 2 are open to planners from a range of background but there are a few must have’s
- The Planner must be competent using Primavera P6
- Must be a good communicator with the confidence to influence multiple stakeholders of all levels across HS2
- Proactive can do attitude
The successful candidate will be someone who is keen to listen and willing to learn, competent on P6 and who has several years’ experience in managing complex projects: Rail, infrastructure, Highways, Construction, Oil & Gas, Utilities, Process, Manufacturing, Government Programme etc with several interfaces.

The next step on the ladder within he Senior Planner which pays £70 – 80k. There are also huge opportunities throughout the Project Controls, planning & programme management.
Work Situation - Hybrid
The office location is Birmingham Snowhill OR London, Euston they operate a flexible hybrid working model working 2 days a week from the office. Overall this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based front the office more you can.
Birmingham £50 – 57,367.75 + Pen(6/12) + 25 hols (mid point £52,152.5)
London £53 – 62,111.5 + Pen(6/12) + 25 hols (£56,450 mid point)
Duties & Responsibilities
- To be accountable for supporting the development of an integrated project schedule across development and delivery areas, ensuring dependencies and interfaces are effectively managed, identifying any risks and potential impacts, and proposing mitigation strategies where applicable.
- To be responsible for supporting schedule input into the development of an integrated project baseline across development and delivery areas. Correlating schedule, cost and risk assessment through to influence critical path analysis and providing robust and quality plans to support decision making.
- To be accountable for identifying key programme interfaces and working with the delivery teams, within both HS2 and the supply chain, to document and manage these.
- To be responsible for working with Project Managers and Project Controls Managers to maintain project schedules and effectively manage change, providing assurance to the plans and schedules submitted by the supply chain.
- To be responsible for supporting What-if scenario planning, providing integrated solutions to programme and project conflicts and recoveries, supporting trade off decision making.
- To have accountability for providing specialist planning and integration support where required.
- To be accountable for collaborating with project delivery teams, the supply chain and stakeholders (including regulatory bodies, and the Department for Transport) where necessary to support the integration of all time, cost and quality information to support the monitoring of project progress and supply chain performance
- To be responsible for inputting into the development of planning and integration policy, processes and standards across the business, leveraging industry best practice to drive continuous improvement and assure that these are implemented consistently and effectively across development and delivery areas
- Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
Required Criteria
Skills
- Ability to use planning software including Primavera P6 – MUST BE PROFICIENT
- Ability to integrate planning activities across multiple complex projects.
- Ability to implement the delivery of processes, procedures and guidance that support project delivery and improve efficiency and accuracy within planning systems.
- Ability to analyse and interpret data, producing accurate, timely and informative reports in multiple formats targeted to the needs of the audience.
- Ability to contribute within a team environment to allow effective decisions to be implemented.
- Able to solve problems with an attention to detail.
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of planning systems, processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of at least one of the core Project Controls disciplines, including; Schedule Management, Cost Management, Change Management and Risk Management and an understanding of how they interrelate.
- Knowledge of the stages of the project life cycle.
Experience
- Experience in one or more core project controls functions, including; baseline maintenance, schedule management, cost performance, change management, risk management and performance reporting.
- Experience of working both individually and as part of a team for the delivery of the planning function within a project team.
- Experienced in the management and control of key Project Controls systems (e.g. Primavera P6).
- Experience of participation in contract progress and schedule change reviews.
