- In – Station Commercial Manager is required for the very high-profile Euston Station working within the Client Organisation responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. The role is placed within HS2 Commercial Development which is accountable for the delivery of the stations into service and the identification and realisation of commercialisation opportunities that seek to maximise the potential commercial return. The Stations Operations and Commercial department is responsible for establishing the stations operations model and commercial opportunities from the HS2 Stations.
The role requires a commercial & creative individual with fresh insight and understanding of the Travel retail sector with insight & understanding of what the customer (85% generation Z & millennials) really wants. Making decisions and shaping strategy for 6 New Stations, 4 in Phase 1, which, includes the jewel in the HS2 Crown the £2.7bn Euston Terminus Station.
Role Overview:
The HS2 In-Station Commercial Manager is responsible for ensuring HS2 optimises its commercial opportunities from its stations including Retail, Food and Beverage, Advertising and Car Parking.
The role reports to the Commercial Development Director working closing with stations operations team to ensue the stations commercial offer is truly world class, delivering Customer Experience not seen the UK. There are several different types of stations – interchange, end terminus each of which will have its own feel where the correct retail offering (food, retail, Beveridge) must be chosen. Euston Station will have its own special focus, HS2 is looking to make this a destination where people don’t simply come to catch a train but come early to enjoy the restaurants, bars, café and shops. Think terminal 5 rather than a typical railway station.

Work Situation – Hybrid
The office location is London, Euston and they operate a flexible hybrid working model working 2 days a week from the office. Overall, this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based from the office more you can.

Duties & Responsibilities
- To implement the Commercial Development Strategy as it relates to stations ensuring the HS2 In-Station commercial offer is optimised through design, layout and quantum of space.
- To work closely with the HS2 Station Operations Team to ensure the station commercial offer is integral to the Customer Experience and that all customers can easily access commercial facilities including through the WCPD “app”
- To work with the Commercial Development Director to develop the In-Station Retail Merchandising Strategy at each location determining the location and typology of commercial offers that will optimise customer spend
- To work pro-actively with the Station Delivery teams across all phases to ensure the In-Station Commercial offer is optimised and that the quantum of offer is maintained during construction phases,
- To work with the Commercial Operations Team to create and refine the Retail Financial Model that will ensure HS2 can accurately assess retail space potential at each location,
- To develop a strategy for car parking at Interchange and other relevant stations that maximises HS2’s potential returns
- To develop a strategy for Advertising at HS2 stations that takes advantage of technological advances in media to ensure returns are optimised and HS2 stations showcase best practice.
- Lead on the attainment and analysis of customer profile data that ensures the Commercial Development team have an insight into the type of customers who will use each station and what their needs and wants are and to reflect this in the In-Station Commercial Strategy.
- Manage projects as assigned through to completion
- Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
Candidate Criteria
The role requires a commercial & creative individual with fresh insight and understanding of the Travel retail sector with insight & understanding of what the customer (85% generation Z & millennials) really wants.
Your experience could be with a client asset owner or retail/commercial development consultancy with retail experience within:- Airports, Stations, Shopping Centres etc.
Open to someone being promoted up to the role, looking for an enthusiastic, bright individual who is looking for career development.
Skills:
- Relationship building skills in order to be able to work across all teams at HS2 to promote the commercial offer with the ability to influence across a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Problem solving skills and dealing with ad-hoc issues whilst also being able to work to specific procedures or protocols.
- Communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to attain an understanding and support amongst stakeholders for commercial goals.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the retail, advertising and/or car parking market.
- Customer Insight and its application to a commercial outcome.
Type of Experience:
- Experience of working in a retail, food and beverage or travel retail environment – Airports, Shopping Centres
- Experience of delivering market leading commercial projects in Airports, Rail or other transport hubs or shopping centres
- Experience in generating higher returns through insight led data
- Customer experience focus and the ability to optimise HS2’s opportunity for commercial performance at its stations.
