- We are recruiting for 2 Corporate Assurance Managers one Interim (6 months) & 1 perm to work on the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. The Corporate Assurance Manager works within the Corporate Assurance Team of 6 within the Technical Services Directorate providing 2nd line of defence corporate reviews & audits acting as an independent check on the rude health of the corporate departments across HS2 such as – IT, finance, HR, procurement, PMO etc
The Corporate Assurance Managers work as part of a flexible and multi-disciplinary assurance function, leading on a variety of business assurance reviews (second line of defence) across all areas of our corporate controls environment (HR, finance, procurement, H&S, PMO etc). Where competent, also act as subject matter lead for individual assurance activity or acting as a generalist assurance practitioner managing inputs from subject matter experts.
Reporting to the Senior Corporate Assurance Manager, providing 2nd line of defence corporate reviews & audits acting as an independent check on the rude health of the department. Typically conducting reviews of a department over a 4 – 6 week period with several assurance manager working together, initially starts with setting the scope of the review after discussion with executive / director level, then gathering fieldwork – data analysis, walk through of processes, review itself followed by writing the report.
Ideal Candidate Background
- The successful candidate will have experience as Assurance Manager, Quality Auditor, internal audit, compliance manager at Corporate level – conducting assurance reviews of corporate departments such as HR, finance, procurement, H&S, PMO etc.
- Worked for large Corporate company /complex organisation from any sector – not limited to - Infrastructure, finance, public sector, manufacturing etc
- Superb Communication and stakeholder management skills – comfortable communicating senior executives & directors, able to politely and diplomatically discuss sensitive subjects with others.

Work Situation - Hybrid
The office location is Birmingham Snowhill they operate a flexible hybrid working model working 4/5 days a fortnight from the office - so 2 days a week. Overall this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based front the office more you can.
Salary £52,152.50 + Pen(6/12) + 25 hols
Interim £500 - £550 a day INSIDE IR35
Duties & Responsibilities
- Act as the assurance lead with responsibility for the management of individual assurance reviews, and coordinating the assurance review team to deliver the review, in line with the agreed HS2 assurance programme, following HS2 policy and procedure (and best practice).
- Planning and setting the scope of assurance reviews, and documenting the assurance plan/terms of reference, by working with stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop targeted assurance scope that focuses on key risk areas for activities to be assured
- Planning and delivering fieldwork for assurance reviews, by identifying risk controls and completing testing using a range of testing techniques to assess control design and operating effectiveness
- Holding close out meetings with stakeholders, agreeing corrective actions to support the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of the Integrated Management System.
- Preparing final reports, escalating major issues or inadequate responses to the Senior Corporate Assurance Manager
- Provide analysis of assurance findings with the view to identification of trends to allow management to develop and prioritise improvement initiatives.
- Provide input and ideas to the continual improvement of policies and procedures

Candidate Specification
You will have worked as an Assurance Manager, Quality Auditor or Internal Auditor at Corporate level working within a large corporate company – open for people to come from a range of sectors such as but not limited to infrastructure, public sector, financial, manufacturing, Aerospace, oil & gas etc . You will have strong communication and excellent stakeholder management skills. Lead auditor or assurance qualifications a plus.
Skills:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead the end to end delivery of assurance reviews to a professional standard and to agreed deadlines, working with assurance providers, both internally and from 3rd parties where required
- Ability to identify strengths and areas for improvement within a business area or process, for example by considering R(esults) A(pproach) D(eployment) AR(assessment&review) or C(heck) A(ct) P(lan) D(o) approach
- Ability to analyse information to provide data-driven feedback to support robust, evidence-based decision making
- Ability to identify and scope the impact of assurance findings, and communicate the implications to a range of audiences
- Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint skills
- Project Management skills, leadership and team-working ability
- Ability to engage with and influence senior management and executives
Knowledge:
- Professional assurance, internal control or audit qualifications or equivalent
- Understanding of risks and controls and their application to the business environment
- Knowledge of range of assurance activities, tools and techniques and their application
- Knowledge of management systems, based on recognised standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or BS OHSAS 18001 or CQI
- Knowledge of the rail, construction and utility industries including their requirement and assurance needs.
Type of experience:
- Experience of delivering assurance or audit across a major programme, or a complex organisation, with multiple stakeholders, within the public or private sector
- Experience delivering work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Experience in the validation of major schemes, risk management and reporting.
- Experience of working with sponsors, stakeholders, engineers and project delivery teams.
