- GIS Coordinator is required to work for the Client Organisation (High Speed Two) responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. The role sits in the Digital Engineering Team part of the Technical Services Directorate and offered superb promotion opportunities.
Reporting to the GIS Manager Spatial Data, this role will support HS2 in the form of GIS data management and all related activities. The role requires strong GIS skills across many disciplines for design, construction and operations and maintenance. The post holder will be working within the Digital Engineering team supporting delivery functions and interfacing with suppliers across information types (graphical, non-graphical and geospatial). The role will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on GIS data management such as data production, content publishing, and compliance of data quality & assurance processes.
HS2 is the client, so this role will focus on data management from a client perspective. Whilst rail sector experience is a bonus, it is not essential, it’s possible the candidates may have a background in Highways, Construction, Utilities, but critically they are looking for candidates who have experience in the management of data, so sector or where they worked isn’t that important. However, they must be able to use ARCGIS, Safe FME and Python and have experience of Automation.
They will working alongside 2 existing DC’s. They be responsible for the receipt of the data, auditing/ challenging and management of it. The role holder will manage a more than 1,000,000 GIS data records delivered from numerous contracts. The role holder will engage a number of interfacing design & engineering suppliers. The role holder will engage with key technology vendors.
The post holder can decide the following:
- Technical acceptance of data
- Root causes of Data Quality Issues
- Communication of data quality issues to the HS2 IM and supply chain
- Training of suppliers where required
Work Situation – Hybrid
The office location is Birmingham Snowhill or London Euston (your choice) they operate a flexible hybrid working model with plans to be working 4/5 days a fortnight from the office - so 2 /3 days a week. Overall this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based front the office more you can.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for management of data exchanges of suppliers within the HS2 Common Data Environment, with particular focus on GIS data.
- Responsible for reporting data quality issues and analysis of root causes to the Digital Engineering Team, HS2 Delivery Teams and Suppliers, with particular focus on GIS data.
- Responsible for compliance, of data created within HS2 and Suppliers, with Digital Engineering standards, specifications and operating procedures..
- Responsible for developing and delivering training and support to relevant HS2 business functions, Delivery Teams and our Suppliers regarding HS2 standards, specifications, tools and operating procedures.
- Responsible for identifying areas for improvement and feedback into information requirements, specification development and standards creation through appropriate governance channels. Contribute to the management of the HS2’s Common Data Environment and governance of information, with a particular focus on GIS data.
- Contribute, to undertake transformation of data for other functional uses within HS2 and facilitating appropriate data assurance and approval by others.
- Contribute to the delivery of the Digital Engineering programme. This could include but is not limited to, benefits realisation, integration and evolution of data standards and tools, and raising awareness of HS2’s Digital Engineering strategic goals within HS2, Supply Chain and external stakeholders. Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
Candidate Criteria
Looking for a GIS Coordinator / Technician / Analyst who has worked on any project but they must be able to use ARCGIS, Safe FME and Python and have experience of Automation.
