- Landscape Design Manager & Senior Manager Landscape Architect is required to work for the Client Organisation responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. The role will work on Phase 1, London to Birmingham, of this huge project, superb opportunity to be part of this land mark project
The Landscape Design Manger role is to bring together information on Public Realm and Landscape from a complex range of sources in order to manage and guide the design integration to deliver the Objectives of the Design Vision, Design guidance, EMR, Strategic Goals and Objectives, Benefits and cost compliant integrated delivery of the project. The role holder will provide qualitative assurance and verification to senior management level on key design issues across a defined geographic area working closely with members of the 2 No Integrated Project Teams and the Design team in their technical assurance role.
The Senior Manager Landscape Architect will be the technical lead for the HS2 Landscape Design and Public Realm activities across a number of contract and geographic areas as instructed by the Head of Landscape (line manager). The role holder will play critical role strategically directing, defining and assuring the technical requirements and guidance, providing specialist expertise to the Hybrid Bill and Delivery Teams and ensuring that an integrated and holistic landscape design is achieved.
The Landscape Architectural team providing design guardianship (design assurance), acting as a Critical Friend to the Main Contractors’ landscape design, steering and guiding; orchestration of multiple elements, ecology, bio diversity, waste management, noise, access, drainage, human & nature – this is about creating places social & environmental that work and a contextually relevant.
Working in a dedicated Landscape Design team of 8- 10 people this role reports to a Senior Landscape Design Manager
Work Situation - Hybrid
The office location is Birmingham Snowhill or London Euston they operate a flexible hybrid working model with plans to be working 4/5 days a fortnight from the office - so 2 /3 days a week. Overall this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based front the office more you can.

Duties & Responsibilities
You will be expected to:
- Review and manage the technical assurance activities related to the design development and delivery of landscape areas (including public realm) for a defined geographic area (equivalent to the size of 80km of line of route as instructed by the line manager.
- Work cross programme to integrate a holistic and context driven design that meets the aspiration of the HS2 Design Vision and HS2 Landscape Design Approach benefits and programme requirements.
- Provide technical knowledge and advice at a manager level for the discipline of Landscape Design to the HS2 Business.
- Collaborate with HS2 colleagues and project disciplines cross programme at manager and senior manager level and promote an integrated approach to Landscape Design.
- Develop and maintain an active and close working relationship with project service consultants and stakeholder in order to ensure that Landscape Design requirements are fully understood and delivered. Provide briefings and presentations as and when necessary.
- Manage and guide design activities undertaken by project service consultants and carry out a critical review of key design deliverables.
- Provide regular updates to the Senior Landscape Manager (line manager) and the Head of Landscape.
- Ensure safety is a key priority in all aspects of the role.
Candidate Criteria
The successful candidate will be a qualified Architect or Landscape designer (or equivalent qualification) with experience working as a Landscape Design on major infrastructure or construction projects working for a client organisation or consultancy.
The Senior role will have more substantive experience and line management responsibility & ability to be technical lead.
Skills:
- Design skills relating to the development and design of soft and hard landscape areas (incl. Public Realm) as well as Landscape Masterplans;
- Design skills relating to the development of integrated places that achieve social, environmental and economic benefits;
- Ability to manage landscape design activities of medium to large scale projects;
- Ability to develop appropriate and cost balanced and high-quality design solutions working alongside design and technical specialists;
- Ability to manage multiple consultants;
- Communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills;
- Ability to work alone and to manage complex task;
- Ability to work as part of a diverse and highly skilled team.
Knowledge:
- Degree in Landscape Architecture or equivalent work experience;
- Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute or working towards LI’s Chartership (ideally)
- Understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated, high quality solution that meets all design and functional requirements).
Type of experience:
- Experience on managing medium to large landscape design projects at a senior management level covering stages from inception through to completion.
- Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary management or design team and in conjunction with engineers, construction experts, architects and environmental specialists.
- Experience in site supervision of medium to large landscape construction projects.
- Experience in undertaking design reviews and critiquing to achieve high quality design proposals.
- Giving risk based advice to stakeholder.
- Experience in developing pragmatic approaches to design challenges.
