Looking for a Programme Manager / Project Manager to bring about organisational / business change by managing a capability / training programme to develop and upskill some 250 individuals working within High Speed Two’s Programme Management department.  Working with people from Apprentice to Senior level, collaborating & gaining buy in.

High Speed 2 the new multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester.  This role is responsible for supporting the Head of Programme Management Capability working in a small specialist team setting and maintaining the Programme Management Framework for the capability /training programme:- standards and tools, and facilitating collaboration to ensure industry best practice is embedded across the programme.

 

Liaising with the internal Learning and Development team to define and deploy industry recognised qualifications through the Programme and Project Management community, Liaising and collaborating with key external partners – Dft, Supply Chain, Industry groups sharing an developing best practice.  The programme has 1 and 3 year goals to create a professional community, increase engagement, facilitate learning and development and increased capability within the Programme and Project Management.

Salary:

Looking to pay £55 – 61,140 + Pen (6:12), however, if you are from the correct background might be able to get a little more up to £64/65,000. 

 

Accountabilities:

  • To be accountable for working closely with the Learning and Development team to
    define and deploy industry recognised qualifications through the organisation. 
  • To be responsible for supporting the Head of Programme Management Capability
    in developing, maintaining and implementing the ‘Project Management Handbook’ for the organisation, setting out the HS2 Way and defining the Programme/Project Management standards, policies, and processes across the organisation. 
  • To be responsible for developing and implementing a Programme/Project Management competency framework across the organisation, supporting individuals to both assess their current competency and build development plans where required. 
  • To be responsible for supporting the Head of Programme Management Capability in managing relationships with key stakeholders, including the Department for Transport, wider government stakeholders and industry groups in sharing and developing best practice within HS2 and the Industry. 
  • To be accountable for identifying and implementing industry best practice across the Programme and Project management community, facilitating collaboration and eliciting continuous feedback to promote improvements. 
  • To be responsible for setting and maintaining the required capability across all Programme and Project Managers and aligning their development with the HS2 strategy to provide improvement in the way projects are delivered. 
  • To be responsible for developing a collaborative platform to support the delivery of Programme/Project Management across the organisation, building relationships with stakeholders across the programme. 

 

Required Criteria

Successful candidate will have project managed a business / organisation change programme working for a complex organisation – if you have project managed a training / upskilling capability programme then that would be ideal, however, certainly not essential.  The person will have some sort of Project Management qualification such as APM or equivalent with understanding of the Project lifecycle and must importantly have superb communication, collaboration & stakeholder engagement skills.

 

Skills:

  • Collaboration skills - ability to work with Programme and Project Managers and
    colleagues in many different disciplines across -the organisation to achieve
    successful outcomes. 
  • Communication and Influencing Skills – ability to produce clear communications
    which engage and influence colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Project and Programme Management in large project/programme. 

 

Type of experience: 

  • Project / programme management experience in an infrastructure context. 
  • Experience of developing management competencies within a major project or
    programme.
  • Experience of delivering training programmes in a major project or programme. 
  • Project/programme management qualification, such as Association for Project
    Management (AMP) or equivalent.
