- Overview & Purpose of Role
6 month contract working within the IT Commercial and Vendor Management function working within the organisation responsible for England’s New High Speed Railway, HS2, directly reporting to the IT Commercial Lead and supporting HS2 with Supplier Relationship Management activities.
The IT Supplier Relationship Manager will be responsible for managing 2 major/high profile IT service providers who will be offering IT Project Delivery and IT Professional Services you will be responsible for the operational, relationship & performance management of the 2 major contracts.
The purpose of this role is to manage and drive the service and optimisation of strategic and business critical Third-Party IT suppliers and associated contracts to ensure:- * Drive commercial value from the contract
- * Apply appropriate governance
- * Availability and performance of existing systems and services
- * Delivery to time, cost, quality of new/changed services and systems
This role will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally, in order to drive value for both parties, resulting in lower costs, reduced risk, greater efficiency, better quality, and access to innovation.
Essential to this is ensuring that business strategy is understood and that third parties develop solutions and provide application services that will support the fulfilment of the business plans and objectives.
To own, define and implement continuous improvements to services provided by third party suppliers.
To engage with business and external supplier specific stakeholders, managing the relationship in line with the agreed governance structure.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Managing the relationship with key third party suppliers used thereby ensuring stability (Delivery, Availability, Reliability and Performance).
- Establishing and developing trusted relationships with IT customers and internal service providers and third party suppliers.
- Defining joint performance expectations through setting and ongoing review of shared Key Performance Indicators.
- Chairing regular Operational, Commercial, Executive business reviews, between Supplier and business. Responsible for day-to-day management of the relationship, progress on joint initiatives, operational performance and risks
- Working with the Group Procurement, Legal and Finance teams, conduct annual contractual reviews to seek service improvement, value generating and cost saving opportunities
- Tracking that third party suppliers deliver within the agreed budget and taking corrective action where there is deviation.
- Performing supplier site visits to drive continual service improvements (CSI) and general efficiencies whilst increasing the third party’s awareness of business initiatives and key drivers.
- Ensuring risks and issues are recorded and mitigating actions are successfully identified and progressed by the third party.
- Driving third party suppliers to deliver “value add”, in addition to what they are contractually obliged.
- Commercial management of programme and project costs associated with third parties

Chairing Strategic business planning meetings, where relationship leaders and technical experts from the business and the third party supplier meet to:
- Share strategies and relevant market trends, discuss joint opportunities, potential roadblocks to collaboration
- Identify activities and resources required to take opportunities forward
- Implementing and leading a clear process to capture supplier ideas and innovations, direct them to relevant stakeholders, and ensure that they are evaluated for commercial suitability

Actively supporting the development and implementation of company’s initiatives that require the involvement of allocated third party suppliers, and vice versa through:
- Involvement in supplier selection process – assessment of capability of supplier to deliver future requirements (project & ongoing service delivery)
- Escalation of issues during development activities.
- Managing Acceptance into Service process for third party Supplier
Candidate Criteria,
Skills:
- Making a process work. Ability to identify and challenge organisational processes of increasing complexity and those processes that are unnecessarily complicated. Ability to guide others through the implementation of a new process
- Planning. Ability to prioritise the most important or highest value tasks, using data to inform a rationale. Ability to manage complex internal and external dependencies.
- Stakeholder Management. Proven skills in developing and maintaining key stakeholder engagement and support (at all levels of the organisation).
- Able to stimulate innovative thinking, identify and champion best practices, manage conflict and drive change.
- Ability to influence and motivate staff outside of direct reporting line
- Highly motivated with a collaborative working style.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of an IT Supplier Relations Management lifecycle and its component parts.
- Awareness of digital accessibility including WCAG2.1, AA and equivalent accessibility standards for digital platforms and products
- Knowledge of Siam - Service Integration and Management
- Experience in Supplier Performance management.
- Experience of driving and delivering Continual Service Improvement.
- Ideally have experience working in a mix of public and private companies – need to have an understanding of governance
- Ideally have experience managing relationships of IT companies who are providing project delivery and / or professional services.
