- IT Business Relationship Manager – HS2
HS2 are looking for 4 IT Business Relationship Managers, for a 6-month contract with potential for extensions. Roles will initially be working from Home at least to October.
The Business Relationship Manager will typically be managing a range of 5 to 6 varied initiatives working across all departments of HS2. Examples of projects include: New Digital solution for digital archives, WAN replacement, technology strategy for IOT, Master Data strategy, Digital Collaboration, Digital Workplace, Technology tools for onsite health and safety - the list goes on.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for providing relationship management capability across HS2 IT, acting as the single point of contact working with defined stakeholders across HS2 and the supply chain (where applicable) to understand the operational and developmental needs of the business, ensuring that the needs are communicated to enable effective prioritisation decisions to be made and stakeholder relationships to be effectively managed.
Reporting to Senior Business Relationship Manager working in the IT function – the IT function is accountable for the effectivedelivery of operational, programmes and project change, across the business, IT platforms, products and services utilising and integrating multi discipline teams and methodologies (Waterfall Vs Agile Delivery).
This is a senior level role that requires IT Business Relationship experience where you will be managing at the Front End of the IT lifecycle – develop business case, align business requirements to IT strategy, business engagements, Assurance gate reviews, communicate / collaborate and manage across a range of internal senior stakeholders.
Accountabilities
- To be responsible for gathering information from customers to understand their needs and detail requirements with support of Business Analysts where appropriate.
- To be responsible for maintaining contact with the customer and stakeholders to ensure satisfaction.
- To be responsible for capturing and disseminating technical business information and translate this into IT specific requirements.
- To be accountable for ensuring IT policies and frameworks are adhered to by customer groups.
- To be responsible for ensuring consistency in engagement across the business.
- To be responsible for translating and mediating between IT operations and the business
- To be accountable for operating as the single point of contact for stakeholders, on behalf of the business
- To be responsible for identifying and managing Continual Service Improvement (CSI)
Required Criteria
Skills
- Business analysis (IT operations)- Ability to investigate problems and opportunities in existing processes and contribute to recommending solutions.
- Relationship management- Ability to influence stakeholders and manage relationships effectively. Ability to create and developing long-term strategic relationships to facilitate and deliver business outcomes.
- Strategic thinking- Ability to work within a strategic context and communicate how activities meet strategic goals.
- User focus- Ability to identify and engage with users or stakeholders to collate needs, rationales and can translate this into outcomes.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of a variety of IT project delivery methods (E.g. But not limited to, Agile, waterfall).
- Knowledge of digital information technology, trends and the opportunities they present
Type of experience:
- Experience of collaborating across multiple disciplines within IT to deliver customer requirements
- IT Business Relationship experience where you will be managing at the Front End of the IT lifecycle – develop business case, align business requirements to IT strategy, business engagements, Assurance gate reviews, communicate / collaborate and manage across a range of internal senior stakeholders.
- Could also be working in Business Change, business transformation.
Decision Making
The post holder can decide the following:
- Provide alignment of business requirements to IT Strategy, policies and frameworks
- Provide advice on strategic approaches to a directorate, senior stakeholder
The following decisions are referred for approval:
- Capability and Capacity requirements, to be deferred to line manager
- Changes to strategic direction to be referred to Head of department
- Decisions regarding recruitment and appointment of staff or contractors
- Financial decisions outside of their delegations
- Any decisions relating to the procurement of goods and services
- Recruitment Decision on preferred candidates for employment referred to Head of Systems and Tools for approval.
Dimensions
- Matrix management of Business Analysts to development of Business Requirements
- Assuring multiple directorate IT plan and their delivery
- Attend multiple business meetings and management forums
- Provide communications and information for all related digital and technology activities across the multiple directorates.
