- A leading independent supplier of precast concrete products to the construction industry throughout the UK. The company is privately owned based near Birmingham and has built up a widely respected reputation for superior quality products and exceptional levels of customer service. Engaged in the design and manufacture of precast and prestressed concrete products for buildings and infrastructure, including housing, offices, car parks, shopping centres, etc.
A unique opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated person to fulfil the the Technical Manager role this is a dual role of Structural Design Engineer and management of design team. The Technical Manager who should be a chartered (or close to chartered) civil and/or structural engineer, will report to the Managing Director and is required to lead and provide technical support to our design team. The applicant should have current Eurocode and industrial experience in reinforced concrete, with a reasonable understanding of concrete technology and materials, prestressed concrete, AutoCAD (or similar) and computer aided design and drawing methods.
The candidate will be expected to:
- liaise and communicate with clients, architects and building controllers on project requirements; with builders and contractors on installation and the interface with other parts of buildings; and with internal company production and management staff
- have a knowledge of reinforced and prestressed concrete for a range of standardised and bespoke products;
- oversee the design team engaged in the preparation of structural calculations according to Eurocodes EC0 to 2, and AutoCAD drawings;
- use existing and assist with the development new computer design programs for reinforced and prestressed concrete elements;
- have experience in concrete technology and the use of new and existing cementitious and reinforcing materials and connection systems in the design, manufacture and safe handling of precast products;
- assist in future product development in collaboration with management and production staff;
- attend conferences, exhibitions and trade seminars;
- provide in house technical assurance and be responsible for the safety aspects of company designs;
- develop and lead quality management within the company;
- be responsible for commercial performance;
- have good communication skills and be fluent in written English;
- liaise with other managers;
- promote the company.

- Reinforced & prestressed concrete design experience: 5 years
