This forward-thinking company who heavily invest in both technology and their employees are looking for a Structural Engineer to work within their Technical Department. Reporting to the Chief Engineer for Precast or Senior Engineer the successful candidate will working within the technical department as a Design Engineer. They are looking for a Design Engineer with 1-4 years’ experience and some exposure to RC Concrete design, however, pre-cast experience although desirable not essential. Please note full help and assistance is given to help you achieve Chartership status. Purpose of Role A member of the Technical design team in Derby the role reports to the Chief Engineer. The Derby Office is the Technical centre which is responsible for precast design for 6 of the factories and in addition when needed picks up peaks in demand for the other factories. The majority of the design work will be Substructures: Cover slabs, L walls, T walls, Horizontal panels, Box culvert and Chamber system. The team includes Engineers, Technicians, Estimators, Project Managers, and activities are based around specific projects Location The position is based permanently from Weston Underwood, Derbyshire. Salary £25,000 – 35,000 + pension + bonus + 25 days holiday Role Accountabilities & Key Responsibilities: Provide specific design and engineering inputs for Substructures. Provide support and be part of the wider design and engineering team covering all aspects the product portfolio. Assist with the ongoing implementation of Tekla software Liaise closely with internal departments and production team members to ensure that a high level of service is achieved for customers. Influence and provide guidance and support for wider team members to innovate and achieve optimum solutions. Ensure that work outputs conform to specification and code requirements Maintain project records and develop specific reports as may be required. Assist with technical and design queries from estimating and commercial staff on matters regarding product application. Seek opportunities to learn about changes and innovations in the industry Closely liaise with other business units for best practice and proactively drive a culture of innovation and improvement Support the on-going development of company’s position in its key sectors Essential Ideally the position would be suited to a graduate engineer (BSc & Msc) with a 1 – 4 years’ experience in a design role, but holders of either HNC in civil engineering or construction related discipline may be considered. Have an understanding of current design codes, annexes and specifications Methodical approach to solving client’s requirements and requests Good overall commercial awareness Good time management skills. Ability to work on own initiative, but understand level of responsibility within the team Excellent communication skills. Ability to interact with a wide range of people including clients, contractors & consultants Ability to prioritise work and manage a number of tasks concurrently Be highly motivated Hold a valid driving license Desirable Previous experience of working in a precast concrete environment Willingness to continue personal development – Fully chartership training programme in place Previous experience using BIM (Tekla) software
