Description

Tech savvy Engineers with a keen interest in BIM are required for Digital Engineer to work on the Construction of Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant,

Looking for degree qualified Civil / Structural Engineers for contractor or consultant backgrounds who are genuinely interested in BIM and have good 2D CAD or 3D BIM software skills – please note the CAD/BIM experience could have been gained at university.

Tthe person will be based in offices in Bristol and the project will last 7 years, you will be working in the post tender digital engineering team.

Digital Engineering Team function is to build the project digitally ensuring the design works and the programme fits together, highlighting value engineering opportunities, reducing technical quires, coordinating with sub-consultants, site teams so that the construction phase is easier & more efficient. Utilising state of the art BIM & virtual reality technology.

Digital Engineer’s either report to a Lead Engineer or Senior Digital Engineer and either support a Senior Digital Engineer with a large package of works or take ownership of their very own package, potentially with an Assistant underneath them. Assistant Digital Engineer will either report to a Senior Digital Engineer or Digital Engineer and will be mentored and trained into the role of Digital Engineer.

Hinkley Point Power Station – Project Profile:

  • Construction Costs are estimated at £2 billion
  • Highly Complex massive reinforced structures and buildings
  • Laing O’Rourke/Bouygues consortium signed the main construction contract Construction will involve the main civils works for the nuclear island, the conventional island and supporting structures.
  • This contract is the first relating to the main construction works which will see up to 25,000 jobs created on site over the course of the project, including an estimated 400 apprenticeships for the civils work.
  • The scope of work of the main civils contract includes the Nuclear Island, Conventional Island, Balance of Plant, Waste Disposal, Operational Service Centre; Temporary Civil Structures, Contractor’s offices on site; Contractors roads, platforms and networks.
  • The scale of the work involves sufficient steel reinforcement to build up to 9 HMS Illustrious aircraft carriers and enough left over to build 5 London Eyes; each nuclear island is the equivalent size of St Paul’s Cathedral; and around enough concrete will be poured to fill Twickenham Rugby Stadium to roof level.

AREA OF KEY RESPONSIBILITY for DIGITAL ENGINEERS (Please note Assistants will not be expected to be able to do this straight away).

Production of construction information - models and drawings

  • Generation of site plans, access routes and pour sequences etc. in 2D and 3D.
  • Modelling of temporary installations, plant and site hoarding will have to be produced as necessary to be used in4D sequencing and for coordination.
  • Ensure that project environmental procedures are implemented to satisfy contractual environmental obligations and any necessary third party consents and approvals.
  • RC detailing of temporary works may be required (Experience not essential)

4D Sequencing

  • 4D sequencing to program (linking to Primavera P6 or Microsoft project via Navis Works).
  • Step by step construction (week on week) 4D sequencing within a model environment.
  • ‘Virtual builds’ to support method statements as instruction packs, particularly for reinforcement placement.

Development and use of component parts

  • Develop and maintain a 3D library of custom and third party supplier’s components containing relevant attribute data for use by site teams in their federated models.

Information, Change Control & Records

  • The senior DE modeller for site is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the site teams always have access to the latest information via federated models.
  • All information (models and drawings) must be produced in line with client naming and formatting systems.

Clash detection and coordination

  • Coordinating all third party models into federated models as required by site and planning teams.
  • Running clash checks and reviewing model for errors and details which would create an issue for the construction or operation of the structure.

Schedule information and equipment lists

  • Generation of resource and material usage reports based on programme.
  • Generation of equipment lists.

Engineering Knowledge – Capture, Sharing & Using

  • Provide value engineering in determining the best solutions to engineering problems

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • Experience as Site Engineer or Design Engineer working on civil strucutral projects
  • Conversant with 2D or 3D CAD software could be AutoCAD or any BIM software
  • Tech savvy with a keen interest in BIM / digital engineering
  • Self-motivated to lead and achieve the highest levels of excellence
  • Customer oriented
  • PC-literate,(Various design package experience)
  • Good Communication skills.
  • 1 years or more experience (Graduate Engineer with 1+ expeirence would be a good fit)
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related qualification

Salary

£28 - 40,000 + £4000 (car allowance) or BMW 1 Series or Audi A3 + commute paid for + pension + health
