Description
As a Lead Architect on a UK High Speed Project you will Support the post-Parliamentary stage project requirements set by the Technical Directorate (TD), the Phase 1 Infrastructure Directorate will develop this design to procure reference design through professional services consultants (PSC’s) and then detailed design and construction through Design & Build (D&B) contractors for the main civils works contracts.
 
About the role:
  • Enables and supports project delivery as the asset discipline technical authority and subject matter expert (SME) for all Architecture and design-related matters.
  • Provide specialist technical knowledge and technical leadership for the Architecture and design-related disciplines and associated delivery support to the HS2 business.
  • Define scope of PSC input for procurement and help assess PSC tender returns.
  • Manage the delivery of the Architecture and design-related discipline requirements by the PSC in accordance with the specification and requirements required by TD.
  • Interface with TD to ensure the evidence is provided that the technical and assurance requirements are met by the PSC’s in their documentation.
  • From the reference design manage the production of Planning Application packages and the ITT (Invitation to Tender) for the D&B main civils works contracts and help assess tender returns.
  • Integrate the Architecture and design-related discipline with the other project disciplines and delivery area teams including civils, rail, systems, environment, third party interface, construction logistics and planning etc.
  • Support the area teams through detailed design and construction by D&B contractors to ensure project specification and requirements are met.
  • Obtain Technical Directorate design approvals and sign-offs.
  • Ensure safety is a key priority in all aspects of the role.

About You:
  • Registered architect (ARB/RIBA), with at least 10 years’ experience of delivery of large complex structures in a multi-disciplinary design and delivery environment.
  • Experience of large complex programmes and/or projects (preferably large-scale transportation projects) with an understanding of how the discipline (Architecture and design-related disciplines) fits within the overall multi-disciplinary context and interdependencies.
  • As the senior discipline lead for all Architecture and design-related disciplines, the candidate should have the ability to manage all day to day issues as the subject matter expert (SME). 
  • May be required to “Prepare or Check” core architectural and/or engineering deliverables.
  • May also be required to “approve” as an accredited assurer
