Description
Area Logics Manager is required for 6-month interim contract working within the Client Organisation responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester.  Contract Extension highly likely.
 
The construction of HS2 Construction will generate extensive volumes of excavated materials and use large quantities and numbers of bulk materials and prefabricated units. In addition, construction activities will require the use of plant of various sizes and weights. The movement of plant, materials and prefab units to and from site will be managed to ensure efficiencies within the contractual and geographic areas of the project. To maximise the efficiencies in the logistics approach and to mitigate cost, programme and environmental risk, a coordinated strategy across the project will be implemented.
 
Area Logistics Managers (ALMs) are required to assess & assure the planning of the works undertaken by the professional services contractors, identify and assess the total logistics requirements in each geographical area (north, central and south), identify common requirements between contracts, work compounds and work sites and to interface and develop a coordinated approach with adjacent geographical areas and the Euston Station works team where applicable.    The role reports to the Head of Construction Planning & Logistics.
 
During construction, monitoring and assessment (assurance) of contractor compliance with the Logistics Management Plan and the Coordinated Construction Logistics Plan (CLCP) is required for quality and safety assurance purposes and to ensure the efficiency of the coordinated strategy. The “contractor” to be monitored and assessed may be several construction contractors managing logistics on a contract-by-contract basis, an alliance of construction contractors or a single route-wide logistics management contractor.
 
Working Situation Hybrid
Role is office based from Snowhill, Birmingham coupled with Hybrid working – expectation is to work 5 days a fortnight from the Birmingham office and the rest of the time at home.
Salary   £550 - £600 INSIDE IR35
 
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Liaise with the relevant teams within HS2 and the professional services contractors (PSCs) to identify the logistics requirements in each area based on material demands, location of suppliers/receivers and plant requirements to form a base logistics model for each area;
  • Liaise with the spoil logistics team on the Mass Haul strategy to identify vehicle movement requirements in each area and amend the area model to suit;
  • Liaise with the construction, utilities and ground investigation schedulers to assess and incorporate programme data into the area model;
  • Provide information to the traffic management and land assembly teams on transport network demand and incorporate feedback comments and actions into the area model;
  • Collaborate with the other ALMs and the Euston Works team where applicable and work closely with the Rail Interface and Road Transport Interface managers to ensure interface items and arrangements have been incorporated into the area model;
  • Assist the Logistics Coordination Manager (LCM) in the production of a route-wide, coordinated model for construction logistics from the integration of the area logistics models;
  • Produce various text, charts, diagrams etc. for inclusion in the Coordinated Construction Logistics Plan (CLCP) and undertake a review of the final CLCP document and of the Employer’s Requirements (ERs) for Logistics Management;
  • Undertake an assurance role during construction, monitoring and reporting on the contractor’s management of route-wide logistics and compliance with the ERs in each area and for the success and efficiency of the Project, provide support and advice on logistics issues within the control of HS2.
 

What are they looking for?

Essential skills

  • Proven track record gained within a construction logistics environment with a large proportion of “on-site” operations;
  • Demonstrable ability to work in a multi-skilled environment;
  • Confident individual with the proven ability to communicate and interface at all levels including presentations and report writing;
  • Demonstrable expertise using data for analysis and reporting purposes;
  • Proficient use of proprietary software and IT resources essential (MS Office Suite, Internet search engines, databases etc.), with knowledge of BIM and ability to use Oracle P6 or Contractor useful.
 
 
Desirable skills
  • Educated to degree level in a civil engineering or other numerate discipline desirable but not essential;
  • Membership of a professional body desirable but not essential;
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes;
  • CSCS certified desirable.
