- Description
- The High Speed 2 project will connect London, Birmingham, the East Midlands, Leeds and Manchester, looking to open between 2026 and 2033. The trains will travel up to 400km/h and will cover 330 miles of Track.
HS2 are looking for 2 Permanent Supplier Relationship Managers to work within thier Procurement Team.
JOB PURPOSE
The SRM will play a key role in implementing the Supplier Relationship Management framework with Strategic and Important suppliers (5 Global Design Consultancies). The SRM will manage a portfolio of HS2’s most critical suppliers. They will be responsible for the management of SRM Framework activities that identify and deliver relationship benefits/value to supplier and HS2 alike.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS- The SRM will report to the SRM Lead

ROLE OF DIRECTORATE / DEPARTMENT
This role is within the Supplier Management team, part of the Procurement Operations function within the Commercial Directorate. The Supplier Management team engages with the supply chain to ensure it is appropriately engaged, informed and visible, from pre-procurement through to procurement and contract delivery and captures the post contract value from key business relationships.
ACCOUNTABILITIES- Manage their respective Supplier Relationship Management supplier portfolio including (but not exhaustive to) segmentation analysis, project plans, monthly reporting, forward work/actions, SRM Tool upkeep and providing regular updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Lead all associated meetings, workshops and collaborative events required to support the delivery and development of SRM at HS2.
- Provide ongoing operation support in the maintenance of all sources of SRM data and tools.
- Co-ordinate and maintain a working calendar of meetings and workshops in line with the SRM pilot
- Interface with other governance and assurance, IT and systems-related personnel across HS2, DfT and the supply market to align SRM to wider HS2 governance and reporting, systems and interfaces.
- Support the delivery of training in best practice SRM to nominated relationship managers in the business
- Support with the timely and accurate reporting in accordance with SRM programme governance
- Work with other members of the commercial directorate team where cross working between the various groups and SRM is needed
- Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
- Support the SRM Lead continuous improve the Supplier Relationship Management strategy (including: materials, approach and wider deployment across HS2)
REQUIRED CRITERIA
SKILLS- Analytical, commercial and negotiating skills.
- Effective communications skills to include report writing and presenting skills.
- Stakeholder management skills – including the ability to maintain effective relationships with internal & external relationships
- Ability to use Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to manage meeting calendars and co-ordinating workshops / events
KNOWLEDGE- Knowledge of government initiatives, policies and best practice approaches to SRM.
- Familiar with the commercial and contract delivery lifecycle including key activities during market engagement, procurement and delivery.
- Understanding of systems and reporting applications including procurement and commercial tools
- Knowledge of large projects or working within/under a similar matrix organisational structure.
- Approaches to, and benefits of, good stakeholder management, internal and external communication, coordinated 3rd party and supplier engagement.
- Membership of (or to be currently working towards) the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) or equivalents
TYPE OF EXPERIENCE- Experience of leading a SRM or Supplier Development programme in either the public or private sector.
- Experience of applying SRM intervention activities / arrangements to enhance supplier performance.
- Experience within a procurement, financial or commercial governance structure with supporting policy and processes.

DECISION MAKING- The post holder can decide the following:
- The information and advice provided to stakeholders on how SRM policies and practices are applied.
- Decisions which affect HS2’s ways of working and supply chain arrangements for the protection of business/commercial/reputational interests, contract management and procurement processes
- The following decisions are referred for approval:
- Creation, review and update of SRM collateral such as training materials, tools and processes or strategies.
- Development of SRM supplier development plans
DIMENSIONS- The SRM contracts portfolio currently includes Professional Services Consultants (PSCs) with whom relationships span c.10years and valued circa £1Bn
- The role supports a multi-site Commercial team of 60+ individuals.
KEY CONTACTS- HS2’s Strategic and Important suppliers.
- HS2 commercial and contract managers responsible for HS2’s Strategic and Important suppliers.
- Executives, Directors and other HS2 staff as necessary to provide information, briefings and advice.
- Department for Transport other Government Departments and other Client organisations for the purpose of knowledge and best practice sharing and participation in cross Government commercial initiatives and forums.
COMPLEXITY- Working with complex internal and external stakeholders across HS2, HMG and the supplier base.
- Supporting the development of culture of building excellent Supplier relationships built on trust, openness that enhance HS2 reputation in the market place.
- Influencing critical stakeholders in a “deployed SRM” model with in which the core SRM team act as the centre of excellence to promote consistency for other HS2 “relationship”
- managers (e.g. contract managers / owners, commercial managers, project managers etc…) in other directorates and business units.
